I mentioned, not too long ago, that I would look upon further initiation of personal attacks as a deliberate attempt at the disruption of the community. It has happened.
During the course of the past several days, I have endeavored to facilitate the resolution of an interpersonal conflict within the community through an email circulated openly within a small group of people in the community. This communication involved the ongoing Vanderboegh/Kerodin issue.
Parts of said email has now been published on Mike Vanderboegh’s website in an egregious (but now clearly standard) ploy to air private discussions out in the interests of serving ego and making a point.
Mike has betrayed the confidence of all those involved, and has -once again- used what was meant as a private communication as a tool to “prove himself right” in a public manner.
I provided a balanced audience of email recipients from the community to witness and judge the interactions. Some are partial to Mike. Some to Kerodin. Some were impartial, and likely would rather not have been included. I did this for a reason.
Every one of you in that email stream saw exactly what happened. Every one of you needs to call this out.
Right now.
This is community policing, "tough love", so to speak, and it needs done.
As a result, I am forced to come to the conclusion that the man most responsible for launching the “III” movement is untrustworthy, and more interested in being perceived as “right” –publicly at least- than in any other objective, to include that of advancing liberty and cohesion in the community.
Where is your honor, Mike?
Where is your integrity, Mike?
You claim to be a leader, Mike. I'm calling you on it. Start acting like one.
I note the lack of intellectual honesty -and context- present in the sections of the out-of-context emails Mike decided to publish. I also note the lack of objective evidence –all around- for any of these divisive and spurious claims of one party or another being a “rat”, "informant", "snitch", or whatever.
It’s utter childish nonsense, and this 90’s militia “HE'S A SNITCH!!!" mentality has got to stop. Now.
As a result, for what it is worth, I will say that it is crystal clear that Mike Vanderboegh is promoting divisiveness, and has betrayed the trust of all involved in the private conversation for no reason other than his public self-advancement. Divisiveness for truth and principle is one thing. That is not what this is about. This is about trying to show the world that "I'm right", and betraying nine people, nine community members, including myself, in the process.
I will not visit Sipsey Street Irregulars again, and I encourage my readers to do the same until there is a retraction and a mea culpa.
Email addresses are easy to find on my site, Mike’s, and Kerodin’s.
I highly encourage the community to weigh in, and perform a virtual “sock party” to correct this situation, through email or comments.
Just be advised, if you email, that there is a high probability of Mr. Vanderboegh publishing your emails.
You decide, folks. We either stand together to end this once and for all or we let it continue to fester.
Regardless of Mike's many contributions, he his dead wrong on this. He needs to be told that, and not just by me.
I am just one person. You are many.
Resist.
Hopefully, when all the sturm and drang die down this will be more a teaching / learning event. Most failed human efforts die from the inside out.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of common sense, common decency, and adherence to principles is why I read your blog. Every day.
ReplyDeleteKeep going.
Honestly, it's getting to the point of trusting none of them any longer. One is right, the other wrong....according to what? Each others take on the rights and wrongs of a right or wrong? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteAll information needs shared, regardless. If you're not putting the full bit out for us to decide, I can't choose a 'side'.
And if no one is going to bare it all, then we all lose. If I were a TV watcher, I'd just flip a channel and ignore it. But this is an important issue to all of us. Air out the facts if you have them, air out the dirt if you don't...but air it all out and let us decide. In this issue, silence and facts speak very loudly.
What is Mea copa?
ReplyDeleteThis happens all the time in any freedom or patriot movement: infighting or agent provocateuring. The latter is a matter of course but infighting? People need a foe they can beat, and the beast isn't the easiest foe to get one over so they look for weaker prey. It's instinctual and even the best of us fall to this behavior.
ReplyDeleteAs for any 'purity' issues your purity is in your intent and deeds. What you've done in the past good or bad can serve as a gauge of yourself as a person or it can be used to sabotage your efforts.
Some people just have so much invested in their efforts that any competitor is a threat.
I don't know Kerodin, but I've seen Vanderboegh at his best and at some of his bad. I'll listen but I'm My Own Leader.
Be Your Own Leader. You, I, Kerodin or Mike Vanderboegh are NOT right 100 percent of the time.
...Y'know you don't hear about the SPLC going at it with Move On. Spats among the collectivists tend to stay in the background. Why can't we do the same?
As I previously said on a recent thread over at WRSA, this is what drove me away from SSI quite a while ago (probably almost two years now). The "alleged" leader’s utter lack of leadership, REPEATEDLY demonstrated, was just too much and I couldn't stomach it any longer. I pretty much disowned the whole III community due to MBV's blatant hypocrisy and his humungous ego. This BS and this continual failure of leadership by one of the two people who I credit with waking me up back in 2008 really soured me. In fact, I was so disgusted by the whole thing I pretty much stopped commenting or participating in anything associated with the III community. It became pretty apparent to me that if our flag bearers couldn’t find common cause on such a unifying issue (at least to me), namely the restoration of freedom and liberty for the American people, then how in the heck did we think we were going to influence others outside of our sphere? How were we going to achieve our goal for the greater populace when a mere handful of us couldn’t even find common ground on what should have been an easy subject to unite on? I realized my time and efforts were much better spent on my own family and instead I focused 100% on my time on them. I can’t say how many others walked away from the III community like me over this pettiness but I know for a fact that there are more of them out there.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I applaud what you are trying to do with this post. It is much needed and right on the money. I hope MBV has enough honor left in him to realize that he needs to bury the hatchet already. Nobody said he needs to be friends with Kerodin but at least just peacefully coexist. I Hope that with this public shaming he will finally realize that he is doing far more harm to the cause that he so vociferously professes to support, namely the restoration of our founder’s republic, and that no good whatsoever has come out of this petty sophomoric internecine squabbling with Kerodin or his previous bashing of Tom Baugh who I felt had a valuable, yet different outlook to share with our community. Unfortunately Baugh’s wasn’t an SSI sanctioned opinion so we couldn’t have that now could we?
Hey Mike, you need to sack up and STFU already before you drive everyone other than your handful of sycophants and cheerleaders away.
AP, I thank you for your courage, candor, and willingness to objectively evaluate everything and for allowing your audience to have and express alternate opinions. Also for not contributing to or resorting to the petty squabbling and dissension which has overtaken SSI.
I stand in the light of truth. I am tired of the bullshit.

Pegged perfectly and already done.

He's made it clear he doesn't listen to me. Several times.
I saw this at WRSA and then I come over here and find it here as well.
ReplyDeleteAP, ignore this crap between these folks - that's the way to make it go bye bye. Both sides are guilty of poking at each other and if they're not willing to stop it on their own then both need to fade into obscurity. Neither Vanderbough nor Kerodin are innocent. But I think people are genuinely getting tired of reading about these two attention whores personal arguments. The more attention they get the more they'll push the drama further. And the more division they'll create.
I have watched this thing and then went back to read the history behind it. Kerodin knows where I stand because I told him in a brief private email that he has kept between us, which given what I have seen today has earned him more respect in my eyes. I know what he told me regarding this recent firestorm and his most recent post confirms that private communication.
ReplyDeleteI guess the only thing I've learned from this is that one individual feels he is the elder statesman of the III, which gives him the right to lead and determine who should be allowed to call themselves III. The other has consistently said that we have no leader nor should we.
I'm not willing to trade one tyranny for another so I know where I stand on this ... the rest of you are free to make up your own minds as individuals but don't dare presume that you can impose your will on this movement else you show yourself to be no better than the tyranny that is robbing of us of our birthright of freedom. Anyone who places ego, lust for power, leadership, or notoriety above the cause is a detriment to this movement.
This is about freedom for our descendants ... anyone who puts their own personal interests above that will not find me as an ally when it counts.
That is all I will say about this situation and I hope the rest of us can refocus on the real task at hand.
Corey, mea copa is actually spelled mea culpa, it's latin for "I have sinned"

I quit going to the Sipsey blog a while ago. I don't like blegging or whining. I like K's blog, so what? I'd rather have someone make me think about the tough things instead of reading that the big, bad government is not playing by the rules and nobody is making them play fair. Tell me something I don't know. I'd rather have ideas to wrap my brain around about what can be done about it than listening to someone just whine about it. Just me.
ReplyDeleteIf Mike floats your boat, so be it, read his blog. If you prefer K's blog, read it. Just keep informed about what is going on because it helps you prepare and get your III on.
There are a lot of really smart people in the III community that share their thoughts with the rest of us and make us THINK. I am really grateful for that because it has expanded my views, even if I don't agree with the view being expressed. It has helped me develop my critical thinking and that, is what it is all about Patriots. Being able to think for yourself and make crucial decisions FOR YOURSELF is what freedom is all about. Not to mention the knowledge to know when and what to do about it. So read your favorite III blog, or two, three or a dozen, just don't forget to get off your behind and take real time to do your preps and pt.
As always, AP, your clear thinking makes reading your blog one of my favorites.

1. This is the Net. It's not real. It is nothing more than dots on a computer screen that provoke ideas on the head of the readers.
ReplyDeletePlease gain perspective on this, everyone!
2. Especially on the Net, where the usual social feedback and consequent "checks and balances" do not exist, it is easy to lose oneself in the unreality.
BTDT.
Part of losing oneself is that our brains react like it's real.
Fear. Threats. Cortisone. Adrenaline. Fight or Flight.
BUNKER MENTALITY. That's a no brainer. Your intellect actually understands that, no matter what the pixels look like, THERE REALLY ISN'T ANYONE AT YOUR BACK. So panic sets in and ... look out. Instant Mike v Kerodin.
3. EVERYONE -- ALL OF US: stop. Take a break from the new boob tube. Ravish your wives. Play with the kids. Go on a vacation. Plant a garden. Do something REAL.
GET PERSPECTIVE.
Why? Because sooner or later, that Fight or Flight thing is gonna have a real bad outcome.
Big Brother would just love that, wouldn't he.
Just sayin'.
Pilgrim's Pride,
ReplyDeleteI understand exactly what you're saying. I am trying to apply real-world interpersonal relationship norms to the internet.
Silly me.

AP, It sounds like I went to Portugal for a few days and came back to everybody acting out the worst parts of highschool. There is a reason I spent as little time as possible there and as much as possible in the gym or out in the woods with my actual friends.
ReplyDeleteAlso there is a reason I avoid, or am a ghost on forums.
I, too, wrote off MVB long ago, probably for different reasons than the rest of those here (though it certainly involved MVB's perspective & ostensible leadership). That he would meekly allow himself to be arrested after all those bargeloads of "not one step back" rhetoric confirmed many suspicions for me.
ReplyDeleteBut really, look at the man. I now wonder why I ever accepted such rhetoric from one who is so obviously a future non-combatant. His mouth is really all he has.
I trust Kerodin no more than I do the rest of the III community, which is to say, not very much at all. But I was never the trusting sort to begin with, and little trust beats non-existence. MVB is persona non grata from this point forward.
I think all involved need to take your heads out of your arses. I read and visit all of you self proclaimed 3 percent bloggers. None of you have anything on the other, you all offer something unique in your own ways. I'm grateful to all. What is going down stinks.
ReplyDeleteThis pissing and moaning carries no dignity with it. You All involved have lost something from this reader.
Respect.
When the shit hits the fan and the real fight begins, from the revealing nature of this mudslinging, you guys won't be worth a fart in a mitten except to cover your own arses if the complaining and finger pointing is any indication.
You all need to man up and start acting like the original three percent who went through hell and high water to fight the real fight against tyranny.
AP -
ReplyDeleteI don't read any of those other blogs why, because instead of discussing things like an adult. If your not in lock step with them or have a slightly diferent understanding of something. They treat you like the enemy.
I have never once got that from you AP, thanks!
Oh, and f*%k them if they can't take a joke.
AP, life's to short to be taken this seriously. Do what you can. It is all that you can do. Once you have done that what will be, will be.
P.S. You have yourown battles to fight for Liberty, and your/our children will have theirown. The forces of Tyranny never stop trying to tear Liberty down and we can never relax or become lax in our defense of it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts on all this.

Booyah AP.
ReplyDeleteCarry on.
And I do mean, "carry on!", in that fun and natural way God made for us men ;-)
Omerta means never having to say "I'm sorry."
ReplyDeleteHey AP your welcome. I hope I did not hurt your feelings. What I posted wasn't meant to, but had to say something. The sniping and hatefulness hurts my heart. I know you all involved have the best intentions. You all deserve high kudos too for the courage of your convictions, the work you do, and the resources expended to operate your blogs. It is worth much to give honorable mention also for the vehicle you all provide for all us ground pounder's to express ourselves and communicate, that without your all blogs, would be impossible.
ReplyDeleteIt is in some ways the only resource at this time for us all to stick together.
So, thanks for all you do AP.
God Bless you and your loved ones.
Kind regards,
MTP

Thanks for your input and continued readership.
