I took a trip to the local county sheriff's office today.
Fingerprints and everything.
It was for a permission slip to carry a self-defense tool.
The deputies, young men about my age or younger, were mostly pleasant and "gun guy" types. A welcome change from the arrogance I experienced with Alaska State Troopers. We spoke about shooting and rising crime in the area due to the oil boom, and how the ND state government was making it progressively harder to get a Concealed Carry permission slip.
And no, I'm not worried about being "on record", or about having my prints taken. The .gov has my prints and DNA, and has for years due to my .mil service.
We're all on record, anyway. ;-)
Now I just have to pay for some passport pictures, and pay an additional extortion fee ("processing fee"), and the privilege of being allowed to legally carry the means to defend my family will be all mine. In 6-8 weeks.
Yay for me.
Gotta love anti-self-defense states.
May issue, shall issue, whatever. It's all bunk, IMO, if you have to have a permission slip to carry at all.
But you are doing what a prudent Patriot with a family should consider doing...you are not drawing an artificial line in the sand that you will not defend when confronted by State Power.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying every Patriot should apply and follow every rule - that is for each individual to decide. But no Patriot should flaunt a law and proclaim a line in the sand he is not going to defend.
Good for you.

It bugs me to no end, but I'm not above doing this in order to be able to protect my family and stay out of jail.
ReplyDeleteI do have solid lines, but this isn't one of them.
Annoying? Yep.
2A violation? IMO, yes.
Worth dying over, or leaving my family fatherless? Nope.
Personal decision though, as you said.
I'll pay the extortion money.
;-)

"It bugs me to no end, but I'm not above doing this in order to be able to protect my family and stay out of jail."
ReplyDeleteAP,
I hear ya man, it burns. But like I tell my folks, I'll abide by their laws until there is no law.
And that time is very close.
AP, It is prudent to play their game, you now can "legally" carry and protect your family.
ReplyDeleteHere in Arizona, we don't need any papers but I've had my CCW long before those laws were placed. I can go into a bar or restaurant that serves alcohol with my CCW but I still seat myself facing the entrance.
Stay safe,

My lines are pretty tight. Not much more than those vs standard bad guys. Due to various health factors, if my solid lines are crossed, it will just be a "going out with a bang" type of thing. It may help others, a la Solzhenitsyn. I would hope so. Much more likely is that I go unnoticed, due to natural causes.
ReplyDeleteI expect my best contribution will be the seed I am planting in my grandson. For any perv trolls, I'm talking about the seed of freedom.
Good luck, all.
Update: apparently OpenID not working, or I really am a robot.
Just renewed mine. First time it took 4 months to come back. This time it was 3 weeks. I was floored by the efficiency.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a permission to cary slip. It's a get out of jail free card for when they search you and find you were carrying.

I have been watching this play out for the past couple of years, but the intensity and divisiveness is getting to me. I had originally decided to try and ignore it and watch it play out from the side line. I read AP's last few posts and am in agreement with the gist of it.
But I have to comment now.
You just cannot let it go heh Kerodin?
You are as childish/stubborn/whatever as MvdB.
Tell me why I should give you any more credence over Mike?
AP - you need to take Kerodin to task for this insinuation . . . and yes, we all know exactly what he meant with this post. It is childish at the most infantile level.
LA
Kerodin's comment stems from lengthy personal conversations he and I have had on the subject, and similar ones.
ReplyDeleteThis is not about Mike.
AP
(Conversations about my hesitation to submit to apply for a CCW permit, if you were wondering.)
ReplyDeleteSorry AP, with all due respect (and yes, I do have a tremendous respect for your opinion) I beg to differ with you on this one.
ReplyDeleteBut, it is your blog and you have the right to call it the way you see it.
I see Kerodin's favorite rant against MV - he has frequently repeated various iterations of this and we all know it goes back to Mike's interaction with LE and subsequent gun confiscation.
Read it for what it is, or not.
Whatever.
How about you taking your stand now and stop blogging, as you promised recently.
Obviously neither Mike, nor Kerodin have any plans of backing down - and the division in the ranks will grow, as we have seen from your latest blog post, taking on Mike.
The only thing you are achieving, is getting covered in the crap from the scrap.
Is it worth it?
I thought you were above all this bs. Please prove me right.
No Permit to Carry the G20 on my hip...
ReplyDeleteNo permit to go to Church this Sabbath day...
No permit to write this or the letter to the Editor in our local paper...
No permit to speak at Local Tea Party Meetings...
No Permit to shoot appleseeds... and I will never need one... I am a free man - Family grown with families of their own - and I live in Appalachia where Constitutional carry is a general rule... and with out any posturing or death/kill wish we must remember Gran'ther Heinlein inspired saying: The price of Freedom is the willingness to engage in sudden battle anywhere - anytime without quarter and with absolute ferocity.
We all serve, learn, and grow... ;-)
I've heard all the arguments for and against the CWP, the bottom line is I want "them" to know that there's a large body of people out "here" that are unafraid and armed most of the time.
ReplyDeleteHere in South Carolina the CWP eliminates the NICS check. You walk in, fill out the form (more than one weapon can go on each form), pay the man, and walk out with your purchase. The FFL dealer merely verifies that I possess the CWP, my DL goes on the form.

ReplyDeleteIf you truely resoected his opinion you would take AP's word for what it is.
